Default ** '57 Distributor

Hi everyone. Still trying to gather info and parts for my '57 265 build. I'm going to assume that I don't need anything done to the block or cam in re. to oiling. I think this might have all been upgraded in '57. So, if I'm correct, can I use any sbc distributor, lets say from the 60's?? If wrong, what distributor do I need?? Thanks, Carmine.

Carmine, have you ever considered upgrading to an electronic distributor?
If so, Pertronix make a clone of a stock 1957 Chevrolet distributor using Ignitor I technology. You can use your stock points style coil with it and it will perform better than a stock distributor. They are moderately priced and are brand new. I have had one installed in my 1956 nomad for the past three years and it starts instantly. Here is a link to the distributor: https://www.ebay.com/itm/PerTronix-D...ss!54220!US!-1

I got a cast iron distributor from rock auto to replace my large body hei. Very happy with it. Switched out the vaccum advance with an NOS one. Really interested and following your build. I wish I had picked up an NOS cap, but the prices on those are sky high now.

In keeping with my approach in wanting to use parts available up to '66, I never gave an electronic distributor any thought. I just looked at that distributor and it's quite nice the way it mirrors a stock distributor. I wouldn't necessarily rule it out. First, I'm going to see where my search takes me for a stock one. Thanks for sharing that, Carmine.
