Default *Insurance Advice

I have been happy with a Progressive insurance for years. They have covered my 1955 3100 truck for stated value no problem. My issue is with Homesite Insurance that does Progressive’s home owners insurance. I have always had issues logging into their website and finally got fed up enough to make a change. So I am swapping over to USAA and so far they have been very good and competitive. My problem is that they can’t cover my truck, referred me to American Collector Auto insurance who could only cover the truck if only used weekends and for cars shows, same with a Hagerty. So my question is who offers insurance if your vehicles is a daily driver? I have an appraisal from when I got the truck with a value that works for me even after the improvements I have done. Thanks for any suggestions.
George

No luck with Grundy or Hagerty neither will do a daily driver classic vehicle, I talked with agents at Hagerty and American Collector, no luck. Website for Grundy eliminated it too. Carl 56, do you have driving restrictions on your classic with State Farm?

It would be very rare to have collector car insurance with agreed value to insure a collector car (truck) that is admitted to be a daily driver. You need a regular insurance policy, and you'll have a difficult time getting anyone to insure it for any value to speak of.

Maybe there's a solution but it's going to be hard to find. Most collector car insurance is going to require that you don't drive to work, and that you store the vehicle in a garage. Some policies have mileage limits, others don't. In other words, without a mileage limit, it's fine for you to take a trip across country, but not to drive to work. I.e., you could go to the trifive convention, drive Route 66, etc. but you couldn't drive it to work.

Two solutions. Don't drive it to work, or quit working.

mine is registered as an antique vehicle, so there are MV rules for these type of registrations. plus, I have home and other cars insured with them so get multi-policy discounts.

Just a note about 'stated value' insurance:

Stated value simply means that the customer has 'stated' the $Value of the vehicle is for X amount; that gives the insuror a reason to increase your premium, but it means 'nothing' when/if you have a claim! They will refer to std tables to establish damage claim and probably will *total* your vehicle for a $ amount that is far less than you 'claimed/stated' when you bought the insurance! One only needs to be burned once to learn this definition!

What one wants is 'AGREED VAlue' coverage, which means that you and the insuror AGREE on the $Value of the vehicle. You'll have to provide some documentation (photos and possibly an appraisal) to justify the $Value, but you'll be very glad you had 'Agreed value' insurance if you ever have a claim!

I have my 56 insured thru Hagerty, I'm in Arizona and maybe that makes a difference in what kinds of coverage you can get thru them. I drive drive my 56 on a regular basis and have an a guaranteed value. In my policy, it highlights I have a flexible usage costumed designed policy that doesn't restrict usage to just parades and car shows and encourages me to drive my classic just for them fun of it. I'm guessing coverage from Hagerty and others have different rules by state.

I wanted to update and thank everyone for thoughts and advice. After a lot of phone calls I finally got the “right” person at Hagerty that listened to me and I wound up with coverage similar to Jim56. They call it leisure driving and did the Guaranteed Value at a figure where I was happy. Near as I can figure Stated Value is an agreed figure that they can depreciate (which probably wouldn’t work out to well for the owner). I did have to pony up a bit extra as we just have one other car besides my truck. All good for me and again thanks for all!

Glad you found a solution that's acceptable. Going from "stated value" to "agreed value" is a big step up so you're getting something for your extra cost. Maybe a lot if you had a significant claim.
