Default Spending my CoVid19 Lock Down on the Nomad

After receiving the Nomad last week, I knew that there were a few jobs that needed doing on the Nomad.
- Fitted the new 215 75 14 DiamondBack whitewalls
- Fitted a new battery
- Cleaned and buffed the stainless moldings
- Fixed the non operable gas gauge, turned out to be a sunk float.
- Changed the engine oil & filter
- Adjusted the front brakes
- Investigated an over heating problem, gauge at 90% gunned at 205 so drained radiator, block, removed the water pump which is one of those China copies, checked the T/Stat, which worked but was the wrong type, so restriction of flow. Got a new USA one. I have a newly kitted 493 water pump to fit, so hopefully the engine won't heat as much. The tune is spot on, timing good and the engine runs great. I'll correct a few "band aids" like a flex fan in place of the original 4 blade, the radiator was removed & looks fine, and absolutely no sludge, so hopefully it was the T/Stat as the main problem. It also gives good access to the front of the engine for detailing.

The 'machine screws' (#8-32) should be used to retain the C-pillar mouldings (6 screws for '56-57 models, and 8 scerws for '55 due to the different quantity of holes in the C-pillar mouldings between '55 and '56/7). The small sheet metal screws are used to hold the 8 pieces of exterior stainless for the sliders and quarter windows.

Bama, I agree on C Post Machine screws. But I believe ( on a 55 anyways ) on the 8 Window stainless trim, machine screws are also used.
I am not saying the course will not work for you, just that I did not use but a couple.

Dave,

The side window trim I've removed were retained by sheet metal screws, and all the people I've consulted use the 'Ol '55' kit ... (which has small sheet metal screws for the curved/slider stainless pieces).

I think I recall you saying that you replaced the metal (with thicker metal?) in your car? maybe that lends itself better to machine screws ...?

We need to hear from other Nomaders on this issue to see what was used on their cars...
