I have a 1987 Chevy Monte Carlo SS with the 5.0 HO engine. The volt meter in the dash moves a little right and left at idle with no change at higher rpm.The needle is in the far right of the gauge face. When I turn the headlights on they flicker. All connections are clean and tight. Would this be caused by a bad diode? Thank You for any help and advice. Pete
That sounds normal for an alternator, but you might check it with another voltmeter. If the batter reads between 13.5 and 14.5, the alternator is probably OK. Do any other lights flicker such as dome light? You may have a bad circuit breaker in the light switch.
