It's a bummer that the housing don't fit, but I'm very pleased that someone even make parts for these great cars and we 'average Joe's' have some decent chance to keep our cars running...I'm glad that I don't own multimillion exotic one of one sports car which grille for example needs ten super talented builders and costs 100k...

From my own experince, repro parts for trifives are much better quality and fit than what they usually are for early mustang's.

...and I'm left holding the $400+ bag. Very disappointing, particularly after many years of good parts and service from Danchuk.

If someone at Danchuk (or the "independent dealer") wants to issue an RMA/call slip, I'd be happy to return the bad housing for their inspection and replacement. Neither is talking to me...too busy pointing fingers, I guess. In the meanwhile, since I paid for it with a Mastercard, I'm reversing the charge and will let them fight about it.

Hi tekctrl,

I was alerted to this post by our General Manager and he filled me in on what he knew about this situation. It is my understanding that our Customer Service manager has been in contact with you on this, as you state here, and was working towards a solution. Mike was correct that we do not have any of these in stock at this time. We are working a new batch of castings and hope to have them back in stock soon. AS ALWAYS, Danchuk stands behind our products 100% and we hate to see a customer that has a bad experience. That being said please understand that our Dealers are independent business owners. As such we try not to get involved in their business...which includes situations like this where you have a beef. For the record, we have never told a Dealer that they cannot return product that they have purchased that their customer was not happy with and they all will usually take care of these type of things themselves (which is only right) so I am puzzled as to their statement to you about having to come to us. Regardless...if you would PM me at your earliest convenience I will see what I can do to get this situation handled for you. I don't see a problem with getting you an exchange (or sell you a different set under the circumstances) after the new batch comes into stock. Looking forward to speaking with you. Or, feel free to email me at the email address in my sig. Whichever way you are more comfortable. If you email please put 57 Taillights in the subject it will make it easier for me to see your email.

Bill

Brian at Danchuk and I exchanged several emails on the subject and he referred me to Mike K. Mike and I had a productive phone chat and the issue appears to be resolved at this point. The Danchuk 'independent vendor' has yet to return any calls or messages ... <crickets chirping> ... so I do hope that Danchuk keeps this in mind when evaluating any future ongoing relationship. He's certainly Not doing any good to Danchuk's PR!

the MasterCard charge reversal process remains ongoing.

I'm still at a loss as to how this part slipped through the system, but I guess "stuff happens". I've always had good experiences with Danchuk parts in the past and will look forward to getting the correct parts onto our '57 when they come in.

It's good that your issue is (hopefully) being resolved, however the basic question remains unanswered - Why Don't Repro Parts Fit?

I've had a similar problem with 57 150 Dash Script that I got from Danchuk that didn't fit in the holes in the dash. The part was about 1/16' smaller than the original and the mounting pins simply didn't align with the holes. I was offered a replacement which also didn't fit.

It seems a simple matter to me for the manufacturer (Danchuck) to test fit their pieces on an original car to assure they fit. Or at least set one of their repro parts next to an original and take measurements to assure they match 100% (when you're using original holes to mount something on, 99% often isn't close enough.) Really, how hard is it verify that parts fit?

So the question remains - why don't repro parts fit like they should?

There are many reasons for that situation, and it's probably not going to change given our desire for buying 'less expensive' parts... How many design engineers, checkers, quality control people does the typical 'aftermarket' supplier have? It's closer to zero than whatever you guess!

PS. and in many cases we might be installing one company's repro part to another company's repro panel! And both have similar fit/finish/function problems...

Had the same issue with the trim around our '57 instrument cluster. Wouldn't fit no matter what we did and the 'crimp on' tabs were too short to work properly. I just threw it in the trash and did without. Don't recall who the vendor was but it was cheap enough to throw out as unusable.
