Well some time has past and so have some miles. The car is doing good with the comp springs. I still try not to rev it out too much but every once in a while I'll shift it at 7200 to 7500 and it pulls strong all the way up!

They will definitely rev past 7-8K. Might not have been the smartest thing my friend and I ever did with his motors but we did. Some of those motors had pretty good parts in them from the factory, forged cranks, pretty good rods. Of course that was in the day when you ran 12.1 pistons and the largest cam you could get your hands on (what did we know right, we were teenage juvenile delinquents after all). yes, we puked a couple of 283's, broke a few more revving that high. but they would go pretty high rpm wise for a little while. I was just at my longtime friends house the other day reminiscing and he reminded of the time he had a couple of broken motors and decided to make one out of what he had on hand. Ended up with a 283 that had an early head on one side and a later head on the other, so a staggered valve cover on one side and a straight one on the other, lol. Anyone who says you cant rev the snot out of a 283 is just plain wrong. You can, and generally speaking they will stay together a little better then the later larger motors, but they still come apart like any other motor that is abused, lol.

You really need to go to a drag strip and make a couple baseline 72/7500 passes. Then start short shifting and make some 7000, 6500 & 6000 passes. You might be surprised and learn something.
