Default ls3 and 4l70e

installing a ls3 and 4l70e in my 55.2 . it appears i will have to modify firewall to get the rear of trans high enough for proper pinion angle. i have read through all the build threads i could find, but nobody mentions this. front of engine is down as far as i can get it and still clear rack. normal or am i missing something ?

I have a ls with a 4l60E trans in my 58 truck and I did not have to modify the firewall for the install. Check out Gotmotors and Dan in Pasadena builds they have the Flatout Engineering crossmembers with a LS and I don't remember them having to modify their firewalls either.

No modification to my firewall with my LQ4 and I'm running a mechanical fan too. We did C notch the underside of front of frame for tie rods to clear with Flatout cross member and we switched from the stock flat transmission cover to the hump one they used if you had the factory four speed trans.

I've never heard of a 4l70e trans. Is that correct? Mine has a 4l85e trans which I am told is physically the same on the outside as a 4l80e, just a little bit tougher. Mine came out of a wrecked N series Isuzu delivery truck which regularly carried lot of weight.

I have an LS3 and 4L70 trans in my 56 Nomad with a Morrison chassis. I had to replace the oil pan in order to clear the front cross member. Perhaps that is what you will have to do. I believe it came out of a 2004 Camaro. It clears the firewall and I did not have to modify the tunnel. If you need the part number, I can try to find that for you.

Well i was back at it today, in order to clear the rack and pinion and get 3 degrees of tilt i had to radius the trans tunnel in front of the removeable cover and recess the firewall. rt side valve cover is approx one inch past firewall. on the upside it looks like the original camaro oil pan will now fit.
