Default Factory Power Steering hose 57 Belair

I notice the assembly manual for the hydraulic/power steering on the 1957 shows different numbers for the 6 and V8 as well as the frame grommet. is there actually a difference and if so what is that difference

The 6 cylinder hoses are longer than the V8 hoses. Both are available repro from most vendors.

Which is longer? The six or V8? and how would I know on a V8 if the hoses I have are incorrect?

Check my post #3. The 6 cylinder hoses are longer and will work on a V8 if you had to. Most of the hoses around are V8 hoses so that is likely what you have. I can check the parts book tomorrow for the lengths if you want me to.

Thanks I am fairly sure I have the correct V8 hoses, I am more interested in the frame grommet, the assembly manual gives two part numbers one for 6 and one for V8 why? as far as I can tell the hoses are the same diameter unless it has something to do with how the hoses penetrate the grommet.

The pressure and return hoses aren't the same diameter, the pressure hose has 2 different sizes of hose, with a restrictor connecting the 2 sizes. The restrictor is designed to reduce road vibration.
If you look at the hose drawing in the factory assembly manual, it's for six cylinder.

You can see the pressure hose restrictor (the metal union that connects the thick hose with the thin hose) is inserted into the grommet, so that hole is much bigger. On the V8 hose the restrictor is much farther up the pressure hose and the hole in the grommet is smaller for just the thin hose. I have no idea why they were designed that way.
