Abdiver, if you are going to run the car, and you should, wear a helmet no matter how fast or slow your car is running. You only have one noggin and it can’t be replaced. So grab a helmet and have fun!

A new racequip open face snell 2015 is like 120 on Amazon.

This race talk has piqued my interest. What are the different classes/categories? Will they be running just for time? Against one another? Quarter mile, or 1/8 mile?
I have three trifives, all 4bbl carb aspirated. One has a 265 with 700r4, another with a 327 with 3 onna tree, and one with a 350 with a 700r4. Would they all run in the same class? Do rear end ratios make a difference in classification. What about personal age?
I don't think I'll run, but I'm still curious.

The flyer mentions both “Fun Runs” and “Competitive Racing”.....

I would expect “Competitive “ means bracket racing where you simply “dial in” your time......

Sounds like a good time.....

Hope to meet you and many others.... I am not yet retired so I cannot make BG with my limited free time.....

I’m grateful for this event and I hope it grows into something regular....

Yep, should be fun. I might set one for Show, and another for Go. I like my '55 Nomad for it's looks, and my all black '56 HT for it's spunkiness with the 327 with the 3 speed with overdrive. If I do go with the HT, I'll probably install a hotter cam, and go back to a 4.11 r/e. It already has improved heads and corvette style rams horn exhaust, with a 600cfm Edelbrock and 8X18 tires in back with a Corvette Posi. Not screaming LS fast, but it still looks original...or who knows, I'll see what I can do with the Nomad and its 350.

I doubt I'll run my car on the track. I built it as a cruiser, and am looking forward to driving to the event. Would hate to trailer it home, LOL. 350/700R4/3:42. Not the fastest but it can do 20mpg with the A/C blowin' and the cruise set at 80.

The competition classes are mostly race prepped or prepped cars that want to enter into the competition classes. There is a little something for everyone but it is competition.

For the rest of us, there is the fun runs and boy are they fun. You don't need to go fast, you don't need to pound your car. Drive with your foot to the metal or just a brisk drive down the track, whatever works for you. I have run my 6 down the track at the last five shows in Kentucky. One of the slowest cars, but man is it fun.

You tell me, how many car shows do you go to that you can run your car down the track. And this track is a historic track. In your lifetime, how many opportunities will you get to do something like this? That and they usually have a photographer at the starting line and you can get a shot of your car on the starting line.

Age is no barrier, experience is no barrier. Slow or fast is no barrier. Your car needs a couple of things. Seat belts, all lugs nuts, decent tires, good glass, battery hold down, radiator catch can (beer can will work). So anything slower then 14, you are good to go aaaaaaand, you can take a co-driver. My youngest son made his first pass ever driving down a drag strip in my beloved 70s high school bucket of bolts at this years nationals, with me sitting beside him as the co-driver. What fun! Just ran through the gears, nothing crazy, he was still getting his sea legs with a clutch and old school four speed.

CA712E0D-71BE-418B-8565-38F418FE2F70.jpeg

Faster then 14.00 and you need a helmet (wear one no matter has fast or slow your car is if you can).

The really fast cars, I think like 11s or thereabout, need roll bars and multipoint seat belts.

If you have never done it, track me down. I will be there without my car so happy to walk anyone through the staging and starting line process. You will giggle like a little girl after you make your first pass. This way, when you are in the nursing home staring at the ceiling all day, you can think about all the cool stuff you did as opposed to thinking about all the cool stuff you should have done. So be daring and make a fun run!

I didn't run my panel truck in the fun class as I didn't want to risk breaking anything (and 2500 miles is a LONG way to get towed home), but I did get a chance (twice) to run down the track after the award presentation. With those long two lanes and all the spectators, I couldn't resist letting her rip from a rolling start in 1st gear and chirping the tires as I manually shifted the 700R4. I doubt the old girl would do better than mid-15's, but what a hoot!!

I'm considering going.. I wouldn't be bringing my car, nor do I care to race or watch it. Is this still worthwhile for me? Is there an entry just for the swap meet and to check out the cars?
