Default 2002 GM 5.3L truck engine oil pressure port options

Hello,

I'm working on a '57 with a 2002 5.3L engine.I'm repairing some wiring and troubleshooting some problems with the Dakota Digital VHX install. The Dakotas have the OBD2 module installed but its not getting any data for the oil pressure so I'm going to install the D/D sender that came with the gauges. I want to leave the stock sender in place since I am assuming the engine ECU needs it. Where is the best place to install the Dakota sender? Is there a secondary spot to install it or do I need to get a T-fitting and install both in the same port? If I need the splitter, is there someone on here that have done it so you can let me know what parts I need?

Thanks,

The Gen III "2002" motors , the PCM doesn't even use the stock oil pressure sender. It just went to the gauge cluster. Simply remove it and install a DD sensor there, the threads are metric so will need a NPT to metric adapter. Summit or even DD should sell the adapter fitting for few dollars.

I use this adapter to keep the oil pressure sender. it has a 1/8 npt side port. works great just takes a few days to get here from aussie land.

It's my understanding that the DD setup does not always report oil pressure using the can bus. Probably because some engines don't actually have the oil pressure sensor connected to the ecm as BO185 said. But some DD setups work.

The VHX kit contains the adapters for the senders, save your money.

Gen III engine PCM DOESN'T USE the oil pressure sender. The early motors used a sender NOT a sensor! The oil pressure sensor is a three wire sensor that returns a 0–5V signal to the PCM representing engine oil pressure. 2003-up should have the sensor which can be used to data log, the PCM doesn't use it but you can see the PID for it. But again the Gen III PCM doesn't care about oil pressure, Gen IV will want it. Remove it and install DD sensor and enjoy.

If you're really cheap you can cut the body off the LS sender and tap the plastic for NPT and get a free adapter for zero $. And yes works fine zero issues. lol

Thanks for the responses. The adapter is not an issue, I have that and know how to install a sensor. Just want to make sure the OEM one is not needed before I remove it. I reviewed the wiring diagram for the ECU on a 2002 Silverado and it had a tan/white oil pressure input going to the ECU. Now Iím second guessing what I looked at. I may have downloaded the wrong year. If thatís correct, then problem solved.

Thanks,

Thanks,

For the third time, the Gen III motor, of which you have if its a 2002, the PCM (powertrain control module) DOESN'T NEED a oil pressure sender. Yes the wires go to PCM (to long to explain why and no reason to anyway as its NOT used by the PCM IE NOT needed). Install your DD adapter and sender and enjoy.

If you don't know what gen your motor is easy way to ID is look for the knock sensors if they are under the intake your a Gen III.
