If you look close, the hood is not down in the photo. The 1st photo is a close up of the hood bar extension corner fitment over the fender extension.
The car is not in paint yet. It's in epoxy and I have been working my way from the back to the front. All metal work, gaps, including the hood fitment is completed. All's I have left is the front chrome fitment on this front parking light, fender extension area which will require minimal metal work and then I'm ready for high build primer and start blocking for paint.
The issue I'm describing is a known issue I've seen on numerous 56's. I was actually at a show last weekend where a Danchuk dealer was present. I was able to take a brand new Danchuk "Best" fender extension and fit it to a new (3 piece matching) Danchuck hood bar extension and recreate the issue right in front of the dealer. He was not aware of this issue with 56's either. (He was a 57 guy) I asked if I was being too picky and he said that nobody had ever pointed that out. I've got about 3 different sets of hood bars/extensions and fender extensions and I can recreate it consistently. I'd like to see some close up pictures of a 56 that fit's properly and know what kind of parts they were using. E.g. original, NOS, reproduction (if so, which vendor).
It's not a huge deal but, I'd sure like to see better fitment after 4 years of metal work to get the fit on the rest of the car to the point it's at today. I really enjoy that part of the build. At this point, I plan to finish up the rest of the metal work and modify an otherwise good fitting set of fender extensions to match the hood bars and have them plated. I can't think of a better way.
Here is a picture of the car as of tonight with the hood up and a side shot.
My response was to Dave's pictures. Yours looks like most 56 I have seen
Those fit better than mine currently do but, not perfect. I did purchase Danchuks 3 piece matching set for hood bar and hood bar extensions. They are great quality and fitment and gaps are perfect between the bars. However, Danchuk's (best) fender extensions do not properly. They are what I have in the first photo posted. I've contacted Danchuks to bring it to their attention and they didn't really act like it was a big deal??? I would think if they went to the trouble to make the matching hood bar set, the would have made it fit their fender extensions. At this point, Ill modify a driver set I have to fit and have them re-chromed down the road sometime.
