Very nice and good to know. Thanks, Carmine

I tried the Derale 17317 fan on my '56. Stock 265 with a 4 row radiator and stock 2 groove pulley. I could only get about 3/8" clearance between the fan and the radiator. Core support is moved as far towards the grille as it can be to gain extra space. If the fan tips were not bent as much this fan probably would have worked. I'm hoping to find a 5 blade OEM fan and may install an electric pusher also.

The issue you are running into is your 4 row radiator is thicker than the stock radiator. If you had a stock or aluminum 2 row core you would have plenty of room. The number of grooves in your pulleys have nothing to do with your problem.

Another question:
Does anyone have any fan recommendations when you have a 4 row radiator, radiator in V8 position, stock 265?

You probably don't want to hear it but my honest recommendation is get rid of the 4 row radiator. I have a friend that put a 4 row desert cooler in his 55 to replace the 60 year old original radiator and with no other changes the car ran hotter than it did with the original well used & abused radiator. He went to a 2 row aluminum radiator again with no other changes and the temps were normal 180-185. More rows of smaller tubes will not run cooler than less rows of larger tubes, It is just the way it is.

Agree with Bruce....The only way out I can see is an electric pusher fan (not recommended)...Another option might be a Derale or Spal super thin puller fan....You will have to call one of them for a recommendation.

Since I'm learning, why do you not recommend a pusher fan? I see a lot of them on the tri-fives. Of course a lot of them are with LS conversions and no mechanical fan.

A pusher fan blocks air flow through the radiator.

The 2 reasons I wouldn't consider a pusher fan. The fan motor blocks part of your core from doing any real cooling and if you need a shroud they don't work with a pusher.
