Two years ago we went on cruise out of San Fran to Hawaii for 14 days. First 10 days went very well. First day coming back got a fever, shivering cold and sweating enough to wet bedsheets. Worst Iíve ever felt in my life. Went to shipís doctor and got medicine. Not too much help, just put me out. Quarantined me to my room. They came in and washed down walls three times a day. Wasnít hungry for anything. Lasted for four days. Wife had same problem, but got over it in one day. Doctorís office was overflowing with patients. Insurance wonít cover you at sea. Cruise wants cash payment. Cost $600 for visit and medicine. Luckily, my insurance reimbursed. Willing to bet 1/3 to 1/2 of ship was sick with same thing. Everyone we talked to when getting off either had it or knew someone who did. Iíve never been as sick in my life. Thought I was going to die. Really. Took four months to get back to feeling normal. Probably my last cruise. Too many people in a confined petri dish.
I'm hearing that the cruise lines are going to shut down for at least 2 months. That puts you beyond your cruise date.
The other thing is that a cruise ship seems to be the best documented way to catch this virus, far beyond any other way. Your analogy to Y2K does not hold up. The fear over Y2K was the fear of the unknown. The fear over coronavirus is real. Look at how many cruise ships have had cases, had to be quarantined, and ended up with multiple cases. It's a bunch.
The way to look at the bright side is once this goes over, you'll have your pick of when you want on a cruise ship, and they'll treat you really well. Maybe even luxury quarantine, LOL.
I know one thing for sure I may not be going on a cruise in May but we will do 1-2 before the year is out like we do every year.
And come Monday morning I'll be buying about another 100 or so shares of rcl stock. Before all of the panic rcl was around $140 a share now it's at $32 a share so you know that they will bounce back when all is said and done, so I hope to make some more spending money anyway....
