I'm new to this site. I have a problem I think. I bought a 55 2dr ht that was partially started on a frame off. The guy had the frame done to stock spec's. I want the new urathane bushings, Ford 9 inch, disc brakes, springs moved inward under the frame rails. So I bought a frame from a 56 4dr Sedan thinking their the same frame as I was told by a guy. Now a year later another guy tells me the HT frame is 2 inches longer than the sedan. So my question is the 55 HT frame the same as the 56 4dr sedan frame? Will all my mounting holes line up when I move the body over to the frame?
I know this is an old thread, but thought I'd reply anyway.
One difference between '55 and '56 frames is the '56s rear spring shackle hanger is a bit wider than the '55s. Other than that, they're virtually identical. '57 frames are a whole 'nother story, so we'll disregard those. The sport coupes and convertibles had an extra body mount bracket on the outside of the frame just in front of the forward leaf spring hangers. Aside from these, a '56 sedan frame would work just fine under your '55 sport coupe.
Gregs210, when I had the body off mine, my VIN on the frame started with 57J, it didn't have the B at the beginning either.
