409 wagon outta ft worth was only car to beat me in my class, think it was c/mp at the track in whiskey tall falls tx. Raced at Fredrick Okla. airstrip, was making 300 a month as a buck sgt. Not much extra cash to hot rod, bought a 57 ford wagon rear end for 35 bucks with a 389 rear gear. Other wagon gear was 444 in overdrive wagon, neva found one of those.
Switched to 556 on the street in cowtown till i blew up the top loader 4spd i had in it. Old days for sure.
Have not had time to take mine to run the 1/4 mile yet.. Last time out in the 1/8 it went 6.23 @ 110 mph... Car should be in the 9's somewhere in the 1/4.. Still street driven and no power adders..
my guess would be around 9.80's pretty stout for a street car.

Our LAST BLAST was a 7.02 @ 98 MPH in the 1/8. Flat top pump gas 406 .612 roller Iron Dart heads Victor jr. 650 DP Holley that was way too small but all I could round up at the time. Foot brake 350 turbo 8" TCI 9" Ford rear w 4.86 gears and a 9" slick. All stock suspension with a set of old school bolt on slapper bars. I could bolt the mufflers back on and be able to enjoy some limited local cruise nights. I planned to make some shake down passes on this new set up and go back after some tuning and tweaking with a 750 or larger carb. BUT I had aged a few years since I blew up the old 350 after close to 20 years of ABUSE and with this combo had me leaving with the front end a foot or so off the track. My wife, my gut feeling and the track official said no more back on the track without a roll bar. A good time to take out all the hot rod stuff and get started with our retirement cruiser project. All steel 56 without a front bumper or the hood, my very first car. Oh what some memories we have had.
This actually happened to me a long time ago! I had a '57 Chevy 283 w/three speed in the floor [foxcraft shifter] and stock gears. [Pitiful] Had a small accident with damage in the front end. Needed two fenders and hood, with front bumper and grill. Found all the parts, but...the bumper! As a 17 year old, drag racing for fun, I went to the drag strip to run again, usually J or K/Stock. When I arrived to race, the tech guy said I had to run either Gas or Modified! I told him that I always ran J or K/Stock, but he said no way! He said I had altered the body by not having a front bumper, so I would HAVE to run either Gas or Modified! I didn't even know what they were! I said, what the heck, I'll run Gas. [E/Gas]My first run in the "Gas" class, I was to run a '55 Chevy 327 w/Hilborn fuel-injection stacks out of the hood![B/Gas] Just to show you how long ago this was...no tree or lights. We had a "flagman" called "RED", who was to give me 2 car-lengths per class.[6 car lengths] We lined up, and I could see the '55 in my mirror, and watched the driver get out of the '55, and motioned Red to move me up the track! He kept motioning with his hand until I was 22 car lengths in front of the '55! Man, I could actually SEE the finish line! I said to myself, "if I can't get to that finish line BEFORE he gets there, then somethings wrong with my car"! Red dropped the flag, and I took off, tire hop, and all, and I could see the line coming up quickly, and when I was probably 10-20 feet from the line, this Grey and white "Jet" came by me @ 127 mph! You talk about "getting your doors blown off, that what it felt like! You talk about being embarrassed, I was feeling real bad, and decided right then, not to try running anything again..except the stock class, at that particular time in my life! Just thought this would make some of you guy's day!
