Default I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER

I ordered a set of exhaust manifolds, great price and shipping was only 15.87 pretty good deal right?
so i figured i would go ahead and order a set of pre bent brake lines for manual disc brakes..69.99 ok im cool with that THEN comes the shipping..88.71 you have to be _______ me! i understand an over size charge thats fine but come on man!!!!!
i asked the sales guy (who was nice and understanding) to ask his supervisor about lowering the shipping charge, offered to take handling fee off 7.95
the manifolds weigh at least 30 times more than the brake line set.
way to go ecklers

A lot of the time it's not the weight, it's the size of the box.

Shipping charges can be a bone of contention for anyone but we need to remember that every person employed by the seller that touches the purchase in some way needs to be compensated for that effort. Recently, I shipped out several products and was astounded at how much cardboard boxes, even in bulk had gone up. Packing paper and tape are expensive too. Pretty crazy. Even though I have the process down pat, it still requires time along with the charge from either USPS or other shippers. Mind you, I'm not defending the ones that perform statutory rape, just simply saying it cost.

I bought an o ring for my gas tank. $9:00 shipping. I did a survey and told them that was highway robbery. They could have put it in an envelope and mailed for less than $ 2:00.They did answer back, but gave a long drawn out excuse. Just saying.

I ordered a pair of fuzzies (from ecklers) for the wing window channels and was only charged $9.00. Was happy to pay it. As others have stated sometimes it is more related to the size of the box.

Sometimes it seems that companies use shipping (and handling) as a profit making opportunity but high shipping charges can be reasonable if it assures you get what you ordered and low charges can lead to getting less than what you expected.

I once bought a ceramic beer mug on line with free shipping. Great deal I thought - until it arrived smashed to pieces, wrapped in newspapers and sent in a shoe box. I would gladly have paid for shipping if it assured that it would come in one piece.

On the other hand, when I ship something I'll make sure it arrives in the condition expected and the cost will represent what it costs. I recently sent a manifold and carburetors to a buyer by UPS (too big for the post office). Since UPS won't pay for damage to packages packed by the sender under many circumstances, I let them do the packaging. The shipping was $55 and packaging was $41. That may seem unreasonable but they got it to it's destination in good shape.

Some companies will work with you on shipping. If it'll fit in a small envelope they'll use it. Other companies minimize their shipping material supplies and use standard shipping supplies and methods, and charge accordingly. The days of taking a medium sized box to the post office and sending it out for $5 are over. Thinks get really crazy when you want to send something like a car bench seat; you have to resort to using a trucking company, and that's not at all cheap.
