My question on mods like this is, when you get tried of it,and want to sell will you find a buyer in your money range? Uncut 57 converts are a easy sell.

He doesn't care about originality, he said straight up that he wants to build a restomod.

Default Chop

If That windshield is chopped, it doesn't look like the job was worth the effort or money.

Chopping the roof of any car is a ton of work. Factor in a chop on a mid-fifties hardtop with all that stainless and chrome (pot metal) window frames, and you've just doubled the amount of work. On a convertible you've tripled it. Not only do you have to get "the look" nailed, you've got a boat load of geometry to figure out if you want that top to run up and down properly. Sure it can be done -anything can be done if you throw enough time and money into it - but you're definitely going to in for the long haul. A lift off fiberglass top with a vinyl or fabric covering would be an easier alternative, but even that would be a ton of fabrication. If your plans are only to run topless, just go ahead and chop the windshield & vent windows, throw on a boot cover and call it done.

The 56 convertible in the photo above does not look like the windshield is chopped to me, as the rest have said.

I would think one could do as 55wagoncrazy suggests, lowering the mid and rear bows slightly to give a bit of a sleeker look. Then the top would have to be custom fitted and sewn. A lot of work, worth it to the bucks up modifiers. The changes would be pretty subtle, but possibly pleasing.

Subtle changes like that are what the high end guys do, and what sets their cars apart. You don't change the style, you just clean it up.

You can get anything you're willing to pay for.

Whether it looks right is the question. Once you get there there'ss no going back.
