I was an agent once myself so I have an idea of what I am looking at. Where I live there is not likely any shop either company could have had much experience with.

It is obvious by some of the discussions on this forum that insurance is a mystery to most folks and yes buyer be ware. Do as much research as you can and be sure you are getting "agreed" value not "stated value" which Grundy and Hagerty have as standard classsic car insurance.

I knew the customer would make good on it if Grundy didn't pay. My Hagerty customers have never had an issue.

BTW, My personal Hagerty bill has gone down each year for the last three years in a row.
My claims experience with Grundy has been the outstanding. Been with them for over 12 years and both claims I had were handled quickly and fairly.

I think it might be the adjusters, not the ins company. They are usually independent guys hired for each claim.

That "may" be the issue in my area because I'm not the only shop around here that has had issues with them.

It does not explain why it took so long for Grundy to send the check once the claim amount was agreed on.

I had Hagerty ,They are great when I had a clam & I work at a body shop that works on old car some times never had a issue.
When I got my car on the road & put full insurance on it, it was a lot so I checked Grundy ,it was 1/2 for same coverage. so I changed. I have no agent around here ,so we deal direct with them.

One of the things to take into consideration is the area the vehicle "resides" in. rural areas usually have less costs over urban areas. Also, state to state as well.

I have to insure my 1964 C30 flatbed dually soon, and I asked in both California, where I live, and Nevada, where a friend with a spare address lives. Giant difference, Grundy is half the cost of what Haggarty is.

A friend is an insurance agent, Farmers, and he couldn't touch my truck, out of the universe expensive through Farmers. He did say that state insurance commissioners keep jacking the Nevada premiums up every 6 months, their time periods, and will soon be at the same rates as we have here.

Haggarty also had a mileage limit of 5K max per year, Grundy, no limit.

I still don't really have a clue as to what I will do once the truck gets finished later this summer.

What's the technical difference between "agreed" & "stated" value?

Price is important, yes. However cost's and coverages vary state to state. Can be tough to compare apples to apples. Make sure you have the right coverages Ask questions, find out what shops they routinely use and call those shops or better yet the shop you would use and get their feedback on the companies they deal with. It's your dream car don't wait till after the claim. and be sure you have enough Liability and medical coverage. These cars are made of real steel and no airbags get where I coming from. Ask questions get an agent you can talk to and you can trust. A GOOD agent can help you in time of need. Don't be cheap the 100-200 dollars you may have saved might not mean a whole lot if the claim does not go well.
Just sayin

Good advice!

Agreed value means you and your insurance company agree on the value. If there is a 100% loss, you are cut a check for that agreed amount. Some companies might want an appraisal, photos and details about your car to agree with you on the value. Stated value depends on the opinion of the insurance company based on what they think it's worth, but not what you might think it's worth. With a classic car, you always want agreed coverage. In order to get this, there will be some restrictions such as the car is not your daily driver ("work" car) it needs to be garaged etc..
