Default Patriot headers and stock gear box will fit! with proof.

mocked up big bloc and everything just now. bought the ecklers aluminum bellhousing clutch bracket mount, located frame ball in stock location, lifted engine up to line up the clutch balls and headers slipped right in, maybe the tiniest of dimples on the 5 tube but thats it.

Here we go, for the pics...basically going with the factory clutch location and recessed firewall for the bbc is the ticket, it's close but by no means was it hard. Everything fits right in place. Good clutch action too.

I never had problems with Patriot BBC fender well headers fitting around the steering box it was the unequal distances at the collector flange from the fenders and firewall. Two different pairs were not even close the first pair looked like a junior high school students first welding project the four tubes at the collector were not even welded in the center, absolutely no QC. Hope you have better luck than I did.

I hear you. i have just read so many horror stories about these headers way after i bought them. i was sure they were gonna dive bomb the box and i was gonna end up hacking em or going to a front of the axle steering set-up. As far as the build quality goes they look stout. Flanges are thick, and the the welds are great. cant complain about price either

Looks good! Can't believe every thing on the net. all things equal, 396-454 with stock stock port heads will fit the same. Only tall deck 427 (big truck) or aftermarket raised exhaust port heads will make significant difference by raising and spreading the width of the head surface that the headers bolt to.

I have a pair on my Falcon gasser with a BBC and mine have excellent welds and bends. I helped two friends on their gassers that both have BBC using the Tri 5 Patriot headers. Funny that all three are not Tri 5 Chevys, but the Patriot headers seem to be the go to for fenderwell headers on engine swaps now.
But all three sets of headers have the one common issue; overall width inconsistent. One side sits out 1.5" farther than the other side! Not a big deal on a Tri 5 as both sides are inside the wheelwell opening, and not noticeable. But on my buddy's '35 Plymouth coupe, and my '63 Falcon it became a clearance issue with the body.

Exactly the first pair I received one side was 3" off to the right the other side to the left by 3" the second pair just as bad as the first maybe to much Tequila I guess at the Pertronix factory in Mexico. Notice the scrapes down the collector that's what I get for not measuring both sides. The reason I am so vocal about this product is I spoke to the Pertronix sales manager about the QC issues he took exception to my experience and developed quite a caviler attitude so I am just returning the favor and being honest about my negative experience with this product. Photobucket sucks!
