Default Any areas prone to hidden rust....

Are there any areas prone to hidden rust on a very clean looking 1957 150 2 door? I am new to Trifive cars. I found what appears to be a very clean 57. Some-one told me there is potential for bad rust even on a clean looking car. They mentioned the firewall, something about the air intake for ventilation in the car, and the cowl. Are there any areas of the frame more likely to rust? I am going to put the car on a rack later this week to get a better look. Laying under it the floors , rockers, and floor braces all look solid. I have researched some, but really can't find mention of a rusted firewall. Any help is greatly appreciated. The car is not exactly cheap, but not over the top expensive either. I just sold my Camaro and would really love to get into this car if it is not rusted. Thanks.

The air vents don't go through the cowl on a 57 like it does on a 55/56, so that is usually not prone to rust. Bottom of the front fenders and rockers are usuall the first to collect dirt and hold moisture to cause rust.

lower rear part of the front fender just behind the front wheel (and the little fender brace behind it), also lower quarter panel just in front of the rear tire on a two door, the tail pan, in the trunk on the inner side walls, that rust out is a bear to fix, the corners of the trunk floor under the holes for the wires for the tail lights, braces under the car, the rear shock location in the trunk.

common sense tells us be cause of the age of these cars almost everything is prone to rust unless they have been redone or had excellent storeage. Areas I often see rusty are underside of roofs, drip rail area, over the headlights and even the inner door areas, floors, trunks and quarters.

I have seen part of a firewall on a 57 rusted, mainly in a position where its not accessible unless the front fenders are removed, where a drainage tube goes through.
You need to check the usual places for rust, if you see that there has been extensive repairs/patch panels put in then you need to look even closer.

Although rust can happen anyplace, the 57 headlight brows are not as prone to rust as the 55/56, because the fresh air ducks protect them from mud and salt water. You know, water runs off a ducks back.
The top of my 56 dash is rusted but the rockers are solid. It had a padded dash that held water.

The guy took a deposit from someone else today so I am out of luck on that one. Kinda bummed out about it, but I couldn't spend that kind of money with out a really good look. Thanks for all the replies. I know what to look for as my search continues.

Keep track of it. Car deals tend to go south sometimes. Wifey is one main reason. You may still have a chance at it.
