After pride there's arrogance. I'd say you're behind the pride.

Rick, you need to give it a rest please. This forum has no place for this type of behavior. Admin?

When I was a lot younger, probably 30 years ago I had a successful older fella tell me that life is like a turtle if you don't stick your neck out you'll never go anywhere. I have followed this mans logic through out life. Ive never gotten independently wealthy but I'm retired at 59 and doing fine. Not tooting my horn just telling it like it is.

I was 18 with a high school degree. I had a couple of low level jobs and I went to a junior college at night.
Who do you want me to feel sorry for Dave? Those that think life owes them a living?
I knew life at it's worst and I beat the system. I bought my first home at 26 with no one providing one cent.
Sorry if it seems I take pride in what I've accomplished, but please don't tell me I don't know what poverty is.
I'm sure that those that agree with me had their share of hard times. and it was their dedication to hard work that made them successful in life.

Iam no horn tooter. And I am surely not backslapping those like Bob that climbed up out of poverty to accomplish much over such diversity. I bought my first home at 21 and built an addition onto it at 23, not knowing what I was doing. I walked over to the other new homes they were building like mine and then mimicked what they did. Made my own roof trusses and hauled them up with a homemade winch and tackle. I, along with my wife, worked two jobs and was up at 5am and got home at 10pm. Commuted an hour to work each way with two babies to look after. So, if you're struggling -sorry, but it's up to each one of us to make our own success.

What do you really know about me Rick, other than from what you've garnered from a few lines I've posted here? Do I make an assumption about you based on your rude and boorish comments. I prefer not as I think you have some redeeming values. I have my doubts about the other gentleman with the negative comments.
I'll tell you a little more about myself. Not about my personal life, but those values that make up my business life.
I was born and raised in a rural part of California where the average unemployment rate was 22% last year. Second highest in the US.
It used to be a thriving farming community, but now due to the fallowing of water to send potable water to San Diego and Los Angeles, farming is now reduced to growing alfalfa.
I began my business in the manufacturing of custom designed cables and harness in 1979. We are headquartered in San Jose.
Knowing the lack of good jobs where I came from, I decided to open a satellite operation down there in the year 2000.
I opened it with 10 employees, and this year we've hit 150 employees. My son, who has taken over for me as the General Manager is telling me we could double our size in one to two years.
Even though I've stayed on as CEO to support my son, I haven't drawn a salary in nearly 5 years. I don't know if I've made a dent in the unemployment rate, but we just received a big slap on the back by the president of the local Chamber of Commerce and City Hall.
My company has almost no turnover. We have 40% in production and the rest in industrial engineering and support departments.
It is their sentiment I am concerned about, because they are the ones that know me and my attitude towards their well being.
Do you think I'm going to worry about what you think about me??? RAMBLE ON!!!
Bob

Johnny, we all admire your workmanship and attention to detail. Your dedication to hard work has made you a survivor in my book. Wish you lived closer so I could tap into your creativity.

The median household income in Silicon Valley explains why ($102K). It's all relative. You make more, you pay more.
Zillow's estimates are inaccurate. They claim my house is worth twice what I can get it appraised for. I think they do this to jump start the market for realtors.

Wouldn't it be nice if they were correct? Their estimates are not necessarily specific to your house. They do a "comp" on houses that have already sold in your neighborhood. It's a ballpark figure but not a "One price fits all" amount.
