Default Lacquer

One of the advantages of lacquer is the ability to easily make spot paint repairs so I don't use anything but a polish so I don't have to deal with extensive wax removal or silicones.

I did and the stuff was great. I had a 40 LaSalle 14 coats of black lacquer I would polish it before a show and the shine would die within a couple of days. I went to a show and parked near a guy and told him I can keep the shine. He said "show me the wax so I opened the trunk. He said the me open the can and smell it. Does it smell like kerosene?. Yeah kinda. Well that's what you're putting on your car is kerosene, What do you use? He whipped out a can of Simoniz and said wipe this on and don't wait for it to turn white just rub it back off. He made a believer out of me

Rally and Simonize were what my father used. I started out with Rally in June of 77 when I got my license (because it was in the garage and I did not have to pay for it, lol), also used DuPont No. 7 white compound, then switched to Turtle Wax because the can was cooler looking and it came with an applicator (was a cloth covered sponge in those days, now its a sponge.) Later, I used blue poly, then some stuff that was a no wax deal called Astro Shield, then over the years what ever was on sale. But when I had to rejuvenate the old lacquer paint, I went with what I knew, lol.

Speaking of fathers, my dad used to keep a car up to snuff, and being a wee lad i watched and waited, and i tried to polish it for him, mmmm, i used paint remover by accident, being a 5 or 6 yr old, well, that didn't go over well, an neither did the butt whopping i got for trying to do the right thang, in my adult life Ive not polished a vehicle 6 times in over 70yrs, including my bikes, on my exwife current girlfriends bike i let her do it, haha, some things kinda stick with ya.
