My car has the original spiral wound shocks. I want to replace these with new shocks and need some recommendations. Any one ever deal with A-1 Shock Absorber Co. in Colorado? They can rebuild the originals but it's kind of pricey and they sell shocks, either gas or hydraulic. They suggest extra heavy duty. Any thoughts?
Everyone and their brother suggests extra heavy duty ... they cost more. Bottom line is do you want to shoot for comfort or handling? Or if money is little concern you can *sort of* get both in one shock.
Monotube designs are superior to the old twin-tube designs.
The only monotube design in a relatively inexpensive shock is the KYB Gas-A-Just. From there you go up to the more expensive brands such as Bilstein, RideTech, and Viking. There are some others too.
Monroe shocks for trifive are all the old outdated twin-tube type. I wouldn't waste money on them.
