Default Frustration over new parts fitment

Live and Learn

Trying to patronize Woody's, plus they are in Indiana and I am in Wisconsin (close by), I ordered a pair of brake drums from them for my rear axle. Part #030. They were shipped from Danchuk in California (far away). Supposed to fit '51-'58 Chev, front and rear. Guess what. They don't! They are too deep. When mounted flush against the axle they rub against the backing plate. Of course I had to paint them before fitment, which means I can't return them. And the cost of shipping would be at least half of what I paid for the pair anyhow. I suppose they could be ground down, but I don't have the facilities to do that. Plus, why should I have to? Why can't companies which cater to trifive Chevies implement a quality control program to ensure that parts being sold actually fit? I'm very confident that my rear axle is out of a trifive as I just had it rebuilt. All the rest of the parts fit. I sure wish I would have read all of the posts in genso's thread regarding brake drums before I ordered mine.
Rant over!

P.S. Anybody looking for some freshly painted brand new boat anchors?

Contact Woody`s, being the nice guys they are, I bet they will take them back and pay shipping.

Is there a chance the rebuider bent the backing plate?

The drums on both the driver's side and the passenger's side rub. When I put the original drums back on - no rubbing. I laid a new drum next to an original drum on a bench and you visually see the new one is deeper. Or I could say, since they're laying down, the new one is higher.

You see two rings around the circumference of the drum. It is the inner ring which is too high and is rubbing on the back plate.

Id contact Woodys and let them know the problem. If they wont take them back because you painted them then contact your credit card company and let them handle it. Painted or not they don't fit.

One would think after all the promoting of the Nationals here, Woody`s would`nt risk a bad rap over a set of brake drums.I`ll bet they don`t even want them back due to the cost of shipping. If I`m right please let us know.
