The only thing I can add,

A local restoration shop called me asking what PPG's approval was on this system. That company shows on their web site they they have a bunch of the major paint companies approval on the process and the Holdtite102 (or what ever its called) that they spray on afterwards. I emailed the link to a bunch of the top brass at PPG and none of them had ever even heard of the company or its products. Take that for what its worth, but the bottom line is that they are using a companies logo and making false statements as to their approvals.

My body man is restoring his own Ford Galaxy, and had water blasting his frame. The rest, as with my Chevy, he did the old fashion way with elbow grease.

Default Dustless Blasting

I had a Mercedes 280sl blasted with this (water slurry with ground glass and additive to prevent flash rusting). The car was gutted, most of the outer sheetmetal removed and on a rotisserie.

The good news is that it came out cleaner than clean. The seam sealer and undercoating was a bear for the guy but he stuck with it. The sheetmetal will rust out and the German undercoating will still be there!! I think it took 10 80lb bags of glass. I think it was about $700 and, by the end of the day, I think he underbid it.

I cleaned it off and epoxy primed it the next day. A year or so later the primer still adheres great.

The bad news is predictable. I had 800 pounds of glass sand to shovel. Had my rotisserie fit on my trailer I could have had it done at his shop and skipped that. So, like they say, don't do this at home!!!

I will get dust out of it for, well, forever. I blow and vacuum and it still comes. But I wanted the rust GONE, and it is GONE. It isn't perfect for every job, but definitely has a place.

Good luck!

John

Don't use this method of blasting if you don't have to. Its a big mess. We have one at work
. The biggest problems we have come across is the clean up and rusting of the metal before you can prime. If you are blasting an open car the slurry get in all the voids and cakes up and dries into a hard concrete like brick that cant be gotten out easily. If you wash it out it flash rusts. We went back to dry glass bead blasting for this reason. plus you loose your media in the first blast. It is just a big ol mess and it doesn't go as fast as the vids show.

Thanks, I never thought about the slurry building up and getting hard in the voids. John
