Default *Door removal

am replacing the door weatherstripping on a 57 4 dr hardtop. Seems it would be much easier to remove the doors, one at a time, to remove/replace the weatherstripping BUT I fear alignment problems when I go to reinstall the door. There are only 4 screws holding the hinges in but am I asking for trouble doing this?

Yes, it will be a lot more time consuming if you remove the door and try to get it back the way it was..

P.S. there's actually 8 bolts per front door at the pillar and 6 bolts on the straps, but you have to pull the door panel off to get to the strap bolts. I don't know about the rear doors.

Default door removal

As I suspected! Thanks Don, I think I'll try the install without removing the doors. The rear one isn't bad but the front door will be tougher because of the j shape weather strip for the piller.

Not disagreeing with Don's advice as he is very knowledgable and helpful to all of us but if removing a good fitting door is unavoidable, you can drill a couple of 1/8 " alignment holes through the hinge. This allows you to put the door back on properly aligned. I used 1/8 " welding rods as alignment pins. Hope this helps. Steve

Mike,
For the J seal I used a couple of dowels to align the bottom of the J seal. Also use the something like Gorilla adhesive rather than 3M seal there.,

Don’t take the doors off, bro. Especially if they fit well as is.

I agree. Do not remove the doors for this purpose.
I have replaced all seals with the doors on. Not a big job.
