Hello everyone, new here,Although I've had my 57 15 years and was a member of chevy talk, for some reason I can't get on it anymore, my question is this,I'm planning on changing the old treadle vac brake system for power discs on the front,I've been in contact with tech at cpp, about there kit,the tech is trying to tell me I need a off set booster bracket that costs almost half as the booster and kit itself, I know I need to off set the stock generator with power steering and there is a bracket made for that,he says the booster bracket allows me to use my stock power brake pedal setup, however other sites such as danchuk have conflicting info, one of their tech pages says I must use a stock manual brake setup, the other article says to just drill a hole in the firewall one inch below the old hole once the treadle vac bracket is removed, sorry for the long post, but I'm at a loss.
There has been conflicting reports about this. The BEST information is to remove the bracket from the firewall and all the offset parts mounted to the inside brake pedal support.
One of the problem with using the stock offset parts is the the ratio of movement in the old T-vac versis the new booster is not the same. The pedal will feel soft and not provide full brake travel.
Now you can use your stock brake pedal, and re-drill a hole in it for the new booster rod just as if you were installing the new system on a car that never had factory power brakes. Depending on how large the booster and new master is, it may or not make you move the power steering generator/pump
This is the BEST way to go that will make for the easiest conversion. Small rubber plugs can be used to plug most of the holes, and a larger plastic plug can be used for the extra hole in the firewall that the T-vac rod went through.
Welcome to this site!
