Default 55 dash trim "little bow ties"

Taking ideas on how to repaint the little bow ties in the dash trim on my 55 bel air. I was trying to clean and polish it and made it worst by removing some of the paint. I Tried painting it black and wiping the top off to no avail...
I'm sure I'm not the only one to screw this up. Lol.

There are many hundreds of the Chevrolet Bowties on the dash trim. It would take untold hours to hand paint them all. If it was me, I would buy a new set of dash trim from Danchuck.

I handpainted mine with a small paint brush over the winter. First time I tried to clean it up afterwards I lost some of the paint and there went all that work. The thing is, theres not really a good way to get the paint to stick around the edges of the bowties.

I bought the '55 BelAir trim for my '56 210 in 1968 from the Chevy dealer....was under $5.00 then in the wrappers.

Don't think there`s any real good way to paint them.
You could try and tape them up in a section and have that area airbrushed.

A total of 1234 when a Belair radio opening blank-off plates used.

GM used a tool called a paint mask, which I imagine must have been quite a precision piece and held in a fixture over and over again. Can't help but wonder how often it had to have the spray paint build-up washed off.

Way back in the day, before reproduction trim was available, I tried several methods of painting the little bow ties and the bars on '56 dash trim, from hand painting to air brushing. None of them worked well enough to even think about re-installing them on a car. With the cost of the repos being relatively inexpensive, I don't think there's any real reason not to just buy them and save yourself the aggravation. Dave
