  1. Stock Chevy Discussion 55-56-57
i bought my 57 Bel Air while still in high school in 1977. It's all original and i'm finally at the point where i have consistent time to put into it. It's been 40 years since i rebuilt an engine, so here goes; can i re-use the pistons and rods, camshaft, pushrods and lifters? thanks to all...
  2. Stock Chevy Discussion 55-56-57
the last time i had my 283 rebuilt, it was bored 60 over to be a 292. im told that this is the limit of the bore for a 57 283, but is it possible to sleeve a 57 283, so you could ostensibly use it nearly forever? i know itd be a lot of money over just another 350, but im awfully proud of that...

My engine suddenly started sputtering and now it knocks really loud and aggressively even thpugh it probably doesnt need it, im curious how much a total overhaul or rebuild of a stock 283 engine costs. The car papers indicate its never been rebuilt, so id like to try to start fresh with it.

I'm cleaning my frame and suspension components, for painting and then I'll need all the rebuild parts (ball joints, bumpers, bushings, etc). What is the best source of these parts, preferably in 'kit form' for price... I would prefer US mfgd parts... Any suggestions appreciated. I also...
  8. Transmission and DriveLine Questions
I have a 1957 Bel Air 2dr sedan with a 283 and powerglide configuration. The 283 and Powerglide are from a 1962 Impala. Both the engine and powerglide were rebuilt. There isn't more than 200 miles on the rebuilds, which were done nearly 10 years ago (my dad never drove the car). If I...
  9. Trifive Nomads, Sedan Deliveries & Station Wagons
Hi trifive community, Something blew out the bottom of my oil pan a couple weeks ago - serious damage. Engine is a 283 v8 (2 barrel). I believe it is factory original (not certain though). VIN says car is a 210 with inline 6 engine, but have mixed advice on the chance that the 283 engine...
  10. Engine Building, Hi Performance
Here's an easy one for you experts. I'm having my '57 265 rebuilt and I just checked on the status. It just came back from clean and while I won't get to talk to the mechanic until tomorrow afternoon, the short message I got was that it needs to be bored out for oversized pistons. I want to...
