Did the rubber floor mats in the 150 models lay on the bare metal floor or was it padded? If padded, with what?

Yes, minimal jute padding would be standard for all types of cars with rubber mats. Might be the same padding as used for the carpets. An old carpet might also work for padding.

Jute sounds like the way to go. I had been thinking maybe something like Dynamat but the rubber might slide around on that.

Edit:
Now that I checked the price of jute padding, I know I'll need to go a different direction. Now I'm thinking that any carpet padding will do.

Edit #2:
Well, Eckler's cut padding is a LOT cheaper than the same material from Lowes.
