I was asked a question from a friend of mine and after looking around I'm not sure if I was correct telling him a 56 power glide will work in 55. As I looked at some sites it seemed like 55 was alone and 56 was linked up with other years. Was I wrong to tell him a 56 will work on a 55.
I don't think there is any noticeable difference between the two years or 57 for that matter 58 through 61or 62 are different shorter have a modulator valve no provision for frame horn mounts plus some internal differences please anyone correct me if i'm not remembering right I also have a good working p/g that i pulled out of a 55 for a 350c swap leaked like most but didn't see it puke seemed mostly from shift shaft & kick down seals free to anyone close enough to indianapolis to pick it up has flywheel & adapter plate also v8
The V8 & 6 cylinder P/G transmissions are not the same and will only interchange with their respective engines, Other than that 55-57 transmissions interchange.
