Well I'm stumped.
All the numbers on my cars indicate that a 4 barrel 283 yet it has single exhaust.
All the numbers I checked so far match, engine, water pump, starter, generator, heads and manifold.
Anyway to clear up the confusion?

Unless you have owned the car since new it is impossible to know what others have done to the car over the years, the best you can do is look at the numbers learn what they mean and restore back to original if thats what you looking at doing.

I have learnt there is no point guessing or confussing yourself trying to workout why something is like it is, just learn what it should be and move on :tu

Look to see how your gas line from the fuel tank is routed. The 2 barrel, single exhaust equipped cars had the fuel line running along the inside of the frame rail. If the gas line is mounted to the outside of the frame, it was a single or dual four barrel with a dual exhaust system.
