I'm heavy considering on taking these vent tubes out, and making me some delete plates out of 20 ga metal to block off the air from comming in the car.

REASONS....

1. clean ness of engine bay

2. easier to get front clip on

3. ALOT of work cutting them apart, treating the rust, painting them with POR 15, welding the back together, then finish painting the outside...

4. Don' have to buy MORE parts to get them functional (rubber gromets, gaskets, flappers)

5. Chances of them leaking cold air in the winter time, and can't get the interior of the car hot.

6. If I need air, roll down the windows.

7. Money saved on parts here can go to vintage air system.

I guess vents are cool to have for time period correctness, but I'm thinking I will not miss these if I take them out.

I've already thought about how to address the headlight mounting situation, so that will not be a problem.

What do yall think?

I removed the air ducts from the fender's to the cowl and installed round plates with bolts welded on so I could install nuts inside the car in case I wanted to remove them. I left the fender to headlight ducts as I am planning a dual plenum intake and will route the piping to the ducts with filters.
I did not plan on using them so I removed what I needed. It was a good move for me. I also removed my heater core and plated it up as I plan to install a VA system. Might be a little cold driving it now with no heat but I'll survive.

I removed my vents and welded the firewall holes up. I cut the front ducts off just behind the headlights and welded a piece of sheetmetal over the headlight bucket part to seal it off.

plates

The idea I have is EXACTLY how SHUA did his, make a plate, but a bead roll in it for strength, then weld bolts to the plate so I can put nuts on from the inside.

I'll post pics, I promise!

That is what i thought too. I did install my vent tubes and then i added the cables back on a month or so back. WOW, did it make a difference while driving. I`ll keep mine.

duct cover

Just for the time being, and maybe I'll change my mind later and put them back on, but here is some quick covers that I made, I gotta add bolts and some calk or rubber rope gasket to seal it, and some POR 15 for rust treatment, and then install......

I modified my passenger side to eliminate the heater tube from poking into the motor compartment area. Kept them both fully functional, even tho I have Vintage A/C. I don't have any problems with dirt, water or uninvited air intrusion. I have driven over 15000 miles in the last 2 summers and can testify that keeping those little darlings is the best decision I could have made..!! I rarely need to use the A/C with the amount of circulation they provide. And a side benefit that I noticed is that when I am cruising with the windows down, opening those vents really minimizes how much wind hits me from the sides. I can cruise at 70 on the freeway with windows down and not be buffeted with wind....it is really pretty quiet. Close the vents and I can notice a big difference.

Just my opinion..!!
