I just trashed the cheap headers I put on my 383 in my '56 and went to 2 1/2 rams horns. the only 'problem' was bending the l/h pipe to clear the steering-1ce that was done all else was good.I did not put in a heat riser and used corvette long studs w/blue 'dough nuts' and inserts - then wrapped it all from the flo-masters fwd--my '56 uses the stock mgr./trans mts too.
