2 questions please

1. How much oil does the standard rear end of a 57 chevy hold, I am going to change oil and need to buy some oil to fill it, plus the posi trac additive.

2. The antenna has a little plastic nut that holds the antenna on, but the threads keep stripping and the antenna gets loose, do they make a threaded nut that is not plastic.

Thanks

otis

I don't know of any other nut than the plastic one. Maybe if you put a thin layer of teflon tape on the threads of the antenna the nut might tighten up enough :confused0006: just a thought
57 Shop Manual says 3 1/2 pints...
No alternative to the plastic antenna nut, but the teflon tape is a good idea. The nut is not available by itself, found that out last year.

The original antenna assembly includes a thin metal jam nut that really does the job of holding the mast base securely, it's hidden under the plastic bezel. Just FYI in case you didn't know that. If yours is missing you can find one at a well-stocked hardware store, or I'm sure I've got one lying around somewhere, be happy to mail it to you if you need it.
i have a chrome top on my antenna with the original base, the teflon is a good idea you should try it, might work, for the rear end, someone told me one time just fill it up to the hole, i dont know if thats how it should be but it hasnt given me any problem and it runs good
i have a chrome top on my antenna
Where did you get the chrome top.

thanks

Where did you get the chrome top.
Mine is a chromed piece as well, and looks to be original. It's a Canadian car so maybe that's another difference?

edit: found this on one of tri-five's sponsor sites. It's not exactly like the one on my car but perhaps it would fit? There are several other similar units on that site as well.
The attached 57 Differential spec sheet shows 4 pints.
Thanks for all the help guys.

otis :)
FYI cant remember who, but there was a post on the metal antenna piece, a member posted a pic of it? Sorry I cant be more specific?
