2023 Tri-Five Nationals - Any Tips??

3102 Views 23 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  HILLBILLY 823
Good morning all! I recently stumbled across the dates for the 2023 Nationals at Beech Bend in Bowling Green. I'm just over 2 hours north (by way of a modern car lol) in southern Indiana. I've always said that when I got my car, I wanted to go the the Tri-Fives in Bowling Green, and since it was too late this year, I think next year will be the year. My question to all you Tri-Five vets, what should I be looking out for, and planning for? Hotel details, or suggestions? I have yet to register, I'm trying to get a few ducks in a row before I sink any money into going. I've attended many national car shows in my time, but only as a spectator for a day or two, never entered a car for a full, 3 day show. I'd love to hear any and all advice you guys might have, it's a year away, and I'm already excited!

Yeah, I've read through it, I just wasn't sure if members who had done it before had any advice, or suggested places to stay. I've never done a national show, so I really have no idea what to expect. Was just hoping previous Nats attendees had some tips.

Start looking for a motel now. Be willing to drive a little to save some $$$. I am sure other will chime in with more.

the Bowling Green Area Convention & Visitor Bureau publishes a nice brochure You can call them at 1-800-326-7465 or go on line @ visitBGKY.com. There is a lot to see and do in Bowling green area you won't be disappointed. The brochure has a long list of motels. There is also a large campground at Beech Bend if that interests you.

If you're thinking of taking your wife/GF, be aware that there will be NO activities for her, unless she's into drag racing or auto swap meets. Except for this past event, the Nat's are generally HOT too with very little shade available.

Thanks for the heads up, I went looking at the hotel that has apparently been the host hotel in the past and it said they were out of rooms online. Just booked my reservation at Candlewood Suites, pretty decent rate, and a free cancelation if the need arises!

This is great information, thank you so much!

She's actually just as excited as me! She loves walking around and looking at cars, and watching the races, so I got lucky there! And we're no stranger to heat here, on far too many occasions it was over 100 with humidity here this summer. Hopefully the AC in the car will be working again, and I plan to pack my canopy too!

The only thing I can add is you will have more fun than a barrel of monkeys at the beach.

just so you will be prepared....there is only one way in and out of the dragstrip. So you will be stuck in long slow moving lines going and leaving. Make sure your car doesn't overheat.

This past Nationals was my first year taking the 56 we did attend the year before a last minute decision & didn't take my or my friends 55.We left home Indianapolis early on wednesday morning. That worked well arriving around 10:30 & drove straight to the park to pick up our packet we had reservations at the Comfort Suites for Wednesday Thursday & Friday nights. That allowed a early start Thursday to the show we were able to grab a good spot to set up a canopy not much back up traffic getting into the show that early in the morning. This year the weather was great unlike the previous year that was really hot,I'm not sure how often that weather break can be expected but it was a good time. I'm hoping that my friends 55 will have the new interior done by that time so we can take both cars.Sure it would be more fun for him that way.Note so far I have been unable to make reservations at the same hotel we stayed in both years but have made some a little ways farther at a Wingate.Goodluck you will enjoy the show.

I stayed at the Wingate for while going to MoParty a couple days ago, it's a nice hotel, and if it's the one I'm thinking of, it's the one right next to a very nice Sonic, which was awesome. Thank you for the details though! If you find yourself passing through Southern Indiana on the way to the 2023 Nats, I'd be happy go roll down with you!

I appreciate the heads up on that. I have a toggle switch in the cab for the auxiliary fan, sounds like it'll get a work out. Thank you!
We might do that if you want you are welcome to send me a conversation & we could exchange info.By the way I just was able to make reservations at the Comfort Suites where we stayed the last two years I'll cancel the Windgate reservations the Comfort suites were good & quite a few cars stay there. I had been unable to make reservations online but a call to the front desk got it done.

How does no more Danchuk affect this event?
Be aware that Bowling Green doesn't do a very good job of synchronizing their traffic lights. If your ride has any overheat issues from idling at lights and long lines, it'll show up going to and returning from the raceway.

Thanks for the warning, I'll be sure to check that everything runs nice and cool. From what I've gathered, it used to cruise in the occasional parade, with the auxiliary fan on, and did alright, I appreciate the tip!

I'm about an hour an a half south of you! I'm in the Memphis area, just over 20 minutes north of Louisville.
