I picked up a fair running 283 as a engine for my 57 project and need info cause the owner didn't know much about it.... casting number off left rear of block is; 3794226. there's another number back there that looks like K2762. The number on front right side pad is; T121OD...any help would be great...

3794226 = Casting number; 58-63 283
K2762 = Casting date; November 27th, 1962
T121OD = Tarrytown, Put in service 12/10, D = powerglide trans, 2 barrel carb

Looks like you have a 63 283. :)

Hard to beat those old 283s....used to bore them to 301 and they were bad....:sign0020:

Please expand what you mean by "used to bore them to 301 and they were bad".
I have the understanding that you are referring to the cylinder block, but would like a more specific explanation.
