Has any one used the aftermarket 55 hard top doors being sold? If so how do they fit? any input appreciated thanks 5555roger

I’ve done a lot of research on doors recently. Check out my thread labeled “New Door Shells”.

From what I can tell there are two different aftermarket doors available for 55-57 2 door hard tops. There’s an imported door from Taiwan, easily identified by the black EDP coating. One of the trifive members bought a set of the imported sedan doors and they fit fine after a few minor adjustments with a hammer and dolly. They aren’t constructed from the original 18ga sheet metal. The metal is a little thinner. I don’t know the exact thickness.

The other aftermarket door that is available is made in the USA. It’s made out of the correct 18ga sheet metal like the originals. I’m not sure where in the US they’re made. They are easily identified, no primer. They come with a zinc phosphate coating for corrosion protection. One of our trifive members bought a set of these doors as well. Other than being expensive, he said that they fit well. Most of the venders that I talked to mentioned that they sell a lot of them and they fit well.

I know that CARS sells them, and they "imply" that they make all the sheet metal they sell, but they are the USA made doors.

CARS has facilities in California and Rochester Hills Michigan. I don't know how far you are from the Michigan facility, but if you can go there you would save on shipping, which could be substantial. They come to Spring Carlisle in Carlisle PA You might consider a trip to there and pre-arrange for pick up there. You can call them at 1-800-CARS. or email them. "[email protected]" Most tri-five dealers handle CARS parts. If you have a local dealer they might save you shipping.
