Kind of related to my other thread about hood hinges.

I've blasted my original hood latch clean. But, of course, the original plating is gone and the 2 little springs aren't in too good of shape.
What's the thing to do?
Paint it and buy a new spring kit?
Buy a plated repro unit?

I noticed on Danchuk you can get what looks like a nice plated repro for $75 but they want $150 plus a core for a rebuilt original. I don't care about original but I do want a good quality piece.

nice piece

Roger you did a nice job blasting that piece. I'd have it powder coated. JMHO. :) JIM.

Thanks Jim. Having a blasting cabinet sure is good for this kind of stuff.

Thanks also TJ. You guys have given me an idea.

I think I will paint this silver/aluminum and then clear it with 2 part urethane. I think I'll do my hood hinges the same.

It just seems silly to buy a new repro part just to have it plated when my original part is in fine operating condition.

Final product.

I used PlastiKote silver/aluminum in a rattle can and followed up with SPI Universal Clear polyurethane.
