I have a friend with a 57 chevy HT. It was built in October of 56 the question I have is, What date codes on the intake and carbs would be acceptable to use on this car. He wants to keep the dates as they would have been from the factory?

Thanks in Advance

Thanks for the reply Iam not so much looking for the numbers but the acceptable date of production that would have been on the car with the oct build date. Does the book cover the dates also or just casting numbers?

yes that does help Thanks for the reply's. I see there are two intakes the 56/57 #3731394 and late 57 #3739653. Is this correct? And can I assume that the 3731394 is the one he should look for? And were there any designations of the dual quad on the data plate or just the suffix of the motor stamp?
Thanks for your help we appreciate it!

From what I have read the 3731394 is for the 56-57 manifold
3739653=58-61 manifold

The only place I know of for ID is the satamping on the front of the block or by the casting number of the block also.

3720991=56-57 265
3731548=57---165 and 283
3849852=57-66283

Good luck in your search

The #3739653 manifold is the one used on most all 57 Chevrolets. That other number is for a 1956 model. Actually I think the 3739653 manifold may have been used on late 56's too.
The date code on the manifold is underneath it and also under the heat shield so it is very hard to read. No one usually cares about the code because you must remove the manifold to see it at all, and outside they all look the same from 1957 to 1961. Often these only have the month and day anyway, sometimes no year is on there.
The carbs do not have date codes on their bodies, the date code is on a brass triangular tag that is available in exact repro from Danchuk and others. It mounts on the carb, under a airhorn screw on the drivers side rear of the carb.
