This is car ONE for me and I want to do it right the first time. I have the original rear axel and it isn't a posi. I've been told that afull-size 58-64GM rear axel is a direct fit. I've located a couple of donor cars but I don't know what the code on the axel tag should read for a posi axel.

Any and all information is appreciated

The center section is interchangable, but I believe the whole axle housing is wider on the later years and not a direct fit.

there is a large P on the center section that is cast into the flange of the case

pumpkin swap

I took a trip to a large but distant auto salvage and got a63 chevy posi axel . Now i;ll be able to see if there are any differences in the 57 to the 63 Is it difficult to make te swap? Any tricks of the trade that would be helpful?
