Yes, even in good shape the buttons are stiff, and intentionally so. This way they don't get easily depressed and lose the adjustment.

Per other recent feedback posts, Mike and I seem to have got a lot of this sorted today (while dialling in the new distributor).

After a few tweaks we have it running so:
  • On gentle take-off the shift is super smooth although 1>2 happens a little early at before 15mph. (All other shifts are good too.)
  • On WOT take-off the secondaries open just great – and it growls away! Not sure of the front tyres left the ground or not.)
  • Kickdown was not working after the second adjustment (too tight?), but after third adjustment it activated ... but it did not see the secondaries opening the same way as from standing start. (Not a big deal for me and the way I drive, truth be told.)
Mike said it was all he could do ... and maybe I should get my buddies at the trans shop to check it out.

Thanks for the tips and comments to this thread – I definitely learned something here.
