My guy ran a vibrating compactor over the clay fill & put Visqueen down before the stone. As soon as you can walk on the pour seal it with clear cement sealer it will slow cure bottom up. My Bud that builds storage units does it that way. He also scores 10 -12' rectangles with a concrete saw. I followed his advice my monolithic slab is 15 years old & no cracks however it is 6" thick on clay the Cherokee Indians used to make pottery.
For security the garage doors should be visible from the home. I use LED motion detectors they light up a 1/4 acre each & only draw about 32 watts power each. 2 large red LED's visible from the outside indicate the alarm is on.
I keep 1 overhead garage door opener remote in the home & have a key pad remote on a outside door jam = never need to mess with keys.
Luck with your shop.

Finally got started on the spray foam today! They'll be bback tomorrow to finish it. I'm going to paint the ceiling and top 5ft that won't be covered with liner panel. I already have the paint.

Finished painting the ceiling late last night. Used about 23 gal of paint and could have used more. Kind of hard to see what your doing in the dark! The foam was very uneven since it was the guys first time doing closed cell foam, so it took a lot more paint. The building crew came back and installed the liner panel. Really glad I did that, looks a lot better.

I'm not sure if you can paint open cell. It's closed cell foam. I'm not even sure what it was, got it from a friend that does painting and sprayed it on myself with an airless spray. I believe it's eggshell finish. And it was a dryfall paint. Means the droplets should dry in 6-10ft of drop depending on weather so you don't have overspray on everything. I had the spray foam fellow leave the plastic on the floor and around the door and window so it really wasn't neccessary.

Getting the electric and water in yesterday. It's a lot more work then I thought it would be. Hard pan and rocks meant he spent most the day digging the trench with the mini excavator. Had to crossover the fiber internet feeds at two places.

My dad in law is around and helped with the wiring so that's pretty much done. Got the minisplit head mounted and lineset mostly in place. It's rainy today so will try to finish the connections tomorrow.

Doug how big is that mini split unit & brand & what is your garages sq ft just curious I put a 18000 Pioneer in what used to be my attached garage now living area & new bathroom last year it has worked well both heat & cold for the last year. Previously 1/2 of it was used for my wife's office till a few years ago with only the old overhead gas garage heater & no AC the rest was storage.I have been thinking of putting one in my garage but haven't quite decided. your garage looks great.

The shop is 36x50x14. It's a 36k blueridge diy kit from alpine home air. It's the biggest mini split you can get and have only 1 head. It's a undersized for the size of the shop but I'm not trying to keep it 72 year round either.
