Amongst the potential upgrades I've been considering for my 1957 3100 SB stepside is swapping out my stock door latches for the Altman bear claws. My concerns are: 1) cost. they ain't cheap 2) cutting the door. Is this something anyone would recommend, advise against, etc?

Thanks,

Greg

It was interesting until I saw "cutting the door." I won't install some new mirrors I bought because I'd have to redrill holes in the doors....:anim_25:

Cutting the door isn't really a big deal. They give great instructions. I'm old enough to have personally witnessed the door opening thing on the old style locks so it was a no brainer for me. Do be aware that you lose the push handle lock function when upgrading. That annoyed the hell out of me but I got around it. There are people here who say new "old style" latches work just fine. I'm not a believer. If it was true, cars would still come with that style latch.
