Wifie and I were watching the BJ Auction earlier tonight on the Speed Channel... There was a real nice 57 150 Black Widow tribute car that went for only $58,000... The seller stood on the stage holding a Will You Marry Me? sign... She said YES and he sold his 57... Big night for the both of them :happy0030: Later, Dave

Went to BJ LV today

There are some real nice cars there for sure. Some real nice Tri-five stuff. It'll be interesting to see what the black '55 two door HT goes for on Saturday. I was interested in that car until I had a closer look. For some reason, the builder used an abundant amount of fiberglass on the pan below the trunk lid; the part that's mostly covered by the bumper (not sure what it's officially called). Made be a little concerned about the rest of the car. It still shows well, but for that kind of money, I want real steel.

Yes, the first BW was a nice car and well bought. There is yet another one that is sure to fetch more; lot 667.1. There are some outstanding vehicles there (Lot 642 is one of the nicest '56's I'ver ever seen). Most are out of the range of my check book.

The look on the Black Widow seller's face showed he expected more money for the car.
Add in the costs to Barrett-Jackson & it went lower than it should have. At least his girlfriend said, "YES" so he was happy about that.

Definately a down market for sellers right now... I was shocked at the Black 57 3100 that went for 27 - made me look real hard at mine - and mines a wraparound - the sold one isn't!) And that Kasey Kahne race car only caught 100K? The unraced engine ALONE is worth that (leasing one is 80K - buying one at least 130 depending on what "core" parts you supply) - and the car probably would not have even carried that price were it not a charitable thing.

I looked hard at that '57 PU. One of the nicer trucks there - probably in the top five. The new owner got a steal of a deal there. What amazes me is quality does not necessarily equal price... on some. There are some nice cars that are worth every penny. There are some like the '57 PU that are a great deal, others look like the paint was applied with a mop. Lot 391 (I think) today was a red '55 Chev 2 dr HT. I went yesterday to scope it out thinking I might have a chance. Well, it went for 19K more than I could/would have bid. It was a nice car, but, the new owner will be purchasing a rear speaker system as the former occupants had been removed with the speaker wires cut... What else might be missing... Hopefully that was considered in the bid price. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for these folks that bid and win, but for the amount of coin being spent... oH ****, I'm just out of touch...

Hey Guys, prices are beginning to reflect actual values. BJ has been responsible for a lot of of over priced vehicles. Essentially making those of us wanting to buy a finished tri-five priced out. Those of us wanting to sell; finding buyers willing to pay BJ prices are almost non existent. I have friends and know of others who have paid BIG dollars for cars, and now 3 or 4 years later, the cars are worth 20-30% less. Just my 2 cents, no such thing as "well bought", just what the car is worth at the time.
