Connecting and routing at the radiator is easy. Trying to get those put into the transmission is awful. The kick down cable is right in the way of the tube. I have to do some creative bending, but will finish tomorrow.

Also, one thing would be nice….. if some engineer could develop a modifier for transmission fluid and gear oil so they didn’t stink so badly. I don’t want Dex/Merc to smell like cherries, but at least something that doesn’t smell like armadillo urine.

Its not fresh. We have some armadillos here in Alabama and one decided to leave me a present in front of my workshop door a couple of summers ago. Well, it was an armadillo or raccoon. Too small to be a coyote, too large to be a chipmunk.

My new Earl’s tubing cutters and NOS tube bender that @Robert Haas suggested arrived. Very nice! Now I’m set to make tubing for the next 20 years!

As for forgetting, I can forget what I’m doing while I’m doing it….

Well, bad news. Drained the oil. First part of it was water. I guess Bertha is gonna need another engine tear down at a minimum.

This may be the galaxy telling me to install the 5.3L LS I have. I might go ahead and do that and get the 327 magnafluxed, fixed if I can, and pack it away for a 68 Camaro build in the future. I have a Muncie M20 that would go nicely behind it.

hard to believe with a 50-50 coolant solution it froze . a leaking intake can let water in the oil too. I'd still pressure it up before tear down. Possibly just condensation in the oil pan from the cold??

I am so sad for you. What a bummer.
It’s always a mix of 1 step forward, 2 steps back on Bertha. Then I get 5-6 steps ahead, and slide back 3. I’ve made good progress, but the setbacks and obstacles are really starting to get annoying and discouraging.

I went to my local Advance auto parts store and they loaned me a cooling system pressure checker for free. Pinpointed the tiny leak I had on threaded fitting on my aluminum radiator. It would be the best way to try and isolated the leak from something.
