Just picked up a 1955 4400 with a car hauler back on it.
It has a 396 BB with a 4 speed with a splitter on the axle.

Stand by for loads of questions chaps !

Like should it have dampers on the springs - as it has none at the moment.

Sweet catch!
Funny but not all trucks had dampers (shocks) - I do not know what the criteria was - or if they even came from the factory without em (vs removed by owner) but I have seen quite a few old heavy trucks that did not. I would have them - it's a control of vehicle thing - too easy to lose with out em!

Roll-Back Bed...??

Wow, I'm jealous, is that an actual Roll-Back Bed, or is it just tilted in that position permanently and has extendable ramps...?? :confused0006: Regardless, that'll make a sweet classic car hauler when you get'r all painted up. :tu Good Luck with it !!!

It is a fixed bed with Long ramps to drive up.
It has some stickers showing it was used at the Winternationals in CA in 1982 as a pit car - so I am presuming it was used to transport a race car.

The back is made from very heavy guage steel, in fact I have never seen anything made so solidly - it must weigh a ton - literally!

It needs a few little bits done, but I am looking forward to getting it on the road.

As for paint, I am in 2 minds, I like the battered patined look, but I am also swaying towards a satin black paint job.

I just bought a 55 3600 seires and other than the bed it looks just like yours. But I don't have a big block more like a frozen 6! Good luck with your truck!
Been busy this week doing some bits & bobs, almost ready for it's annual inspection and then registration in Uk, I did have a cheeky drive and It is much better than I thought - noisy and bouncy - like a truck should be !

Post pics of your truck ?
