does anyone know if a 1994 caprice rear end is the same width as the stock 55 one? just picked up the caprice with LT1 motor with 19,000 original miles with new water pump and wanted to see if i could use that rear end without narrowing it?
A tape measure can do wonders to answer a question like this. ;
The stock rear is 60" wide drum to drum, from wheel mounting surfaces. The Caprice is likely wider, but I don't know how much. Also, I don't think it's set up for leaf springs, so you'd have to take off all the bracketry and weld spring perches on if it would even work.
Wider rearends can be made to work if your wheel offset is chosen correctly. But they do make the wheels harder to install and remove.
