I'm a big fan of Mothers Wax's. Company started by a couple of Hot Rodders out of there garage in Southern California. today its big business granted but I really like those roots.

There products today are vast but they started with a simple Carnuba wax and I find it to be a superior product today.

Now with that said after i get it all shiney and want to add some protectioin for like on a road trip I personally prefer a wax just as close to a "Pure" Carnuba as possible. I looked for a long time and did quite a bit of research and it turns out that Johnson Floor Wax is almost 100% Carnuba. I tried it and wow it really does a fine job as a finisher'r.

I also use it on my Black Vette and my Black truck, the corvette in this picture has pure Carnuba wax on it in this picture.

Meguiars was started from the garage of Barry`s grandfather. So that isn`t any different than the mother`s roots.;)

Meguiars all the way, but i use the burgandy bottles consisting of step one the paint cleaner when needed. Then step 2 the polish and last but not least step three the carnuba wax to seal and protect then the ultimate quick detailer as needed to maintain the look. Initialy its a lot of work but the final results is amaising and its easy to keep it show ready after the initial three step process is completed.

Meguiars for me, been using it for years with excellent results. About twice a year I go over the finish with detail spray and a clay bar to remove all the air borne junk that settles on the surface.
I had a Meguiars rep at a car show several years ago ask me if I had ever used a claybar, when I said no he left and came back with detail spray, microfiber cloth and a piece of claybar about the size of a 50 cent piece. He then said you have a great finish on your car, smooth, great shine, but watch this...he proceeded to do one half of the trunk then he had me feel the half not done...then the half he'd just done, what a difference, the finish even appeared deeper and shineier and was smoother to the touch than just the waxed portion. He showed me how to use it and I was sold so to speak.

When I had a paint job worth polishing, I used Slip Stream Aircraft Wax.
I could get a nice mirror reflection from it - and they were the first I noticed mentioning UV protection was added to protect from fading. I assume that's common now.
Anyhow, I researched and found Slip Stream in manufactured down under.

Chevyman, I knew that story but to tell you the truth ole Barry being on TV so much is a deal killer for me. I never have trusted anyone who smiled ALL OF THE TIME. I mean either his face is fixed in that Non Sincere fake smile or his trying to steal the chickens while his selling his stuff. :):)

We've used Satin Gloss for years. Its a petroleum based wax. You never have to worry about all the white caulky gunk around the edges. Great on my newer autos as well, and I have two that are black. I use in on the glass as well. I find it at car shows.:trytofly:

While on Polish Topic, here's best for Chrome and Stainless

While we're on the topic of Polishing, here's the absolute best I've found for cleaning up chrome and stainless, this is good stuff. It's called Simichrome Polish, anyone else use it ?? Check out link below

I have to agree with Roland! As much as I like to watch car shows I can only take so much of Barry. Not to say I don't have some of their product in my workshop though. :)

The carnuba wax is fine, and it's very tenacious. And indeed the Johnson's floor wax is just about pure carnuba.

The thing about it is if your paint isn't 100% polished and clean, you won't be able to rub the wax to a shine without leaving dull spots/residue. So the additives and other ingredients make other products much easier to use.

Some people just prefer to polish and clean. Looks good but no "protection". Which is fine if you have a fair weather car, keep it clean, and detail it often.

I just finished rubbing out and waxing my 55 today, what a job.
The car has sat for the last 6 years and the paint is 30 years old...!!
I have always used Meguiars. I started with step 3, then step 7, then the yellow wax step 26.
The blue is clear coated and it looks as good as the day I had it painted, 30 years ago...!!!

Has anyone used a paint sealant before waxing? I've heard you then get the synthetic protection of the paint sealant (which lasts longer than carnuba
wax) and the shine that only pure carnuba wax can provide.

In any case, Im going to use Mequiers sealant and then their carnuba wax over a throughly clayed down and polished paint and see how it works.

BTW- I'm not a big fan of smiling Barry either but the company has great products.
