Works until it doesn't and then you are screwed if you run out of gas. Seen it happen before.

You can say that about anything @55wagoncrazy - It works until it doesn't...
Doesn't everything "work until it doesn't?"
That's why I've got a custom 27-gallon fuel cell.

I think its neat.
And it gives you the option of removing the gas door on the quarter panel for a smooth look.
Thanks @SeeTheUSA !! I think it's neat too.
The stock 55 gas door was covered up last year, but the dumb-ass painter never installed the Rocky Hinge device so I had to open and close the tail-light to get access to the gas cap with a screwdriver. And... to add insult to injury - the gas cap didn't seal the gas tank so whenever I filled-up it would leak gas out of the back. I even got black-flagged at Sonoma Raceway because it was leaking fuel!!

Very cool @Pops @ Tri-5.com !! I like what you did - improvise and overcome!!
But... my Rocky Hinge super secret gas door is already installed.
Regret I missed the part about it already being installed...I wish you well with yours..(Not being sarcastic)

Another $$$ gadget that hat has no real advantage. Only benefit is eliminating the gas door in the quarter for a custom. Cheaper options for the above as well as any perceived fuel anti-theft benefit.
You're right @zookpr - it doesn't have any real advantage.
But it sure is cool and I like it - and that's what matters right?

Yup...Watched the video...I've known about this mod for some time now...The price for the kit has skyrocketed (like everything else) over the past few years: 1955 Chevy Taillight Conversion Kit

Thanks for the support @Pops @ Tri-5.com !!
I've known about it for years too and I finally pulled the trigger.
Now I've got one of my very own.
Would you do me a favor?
Gimme a like & subscribe to my YouTube channel if you haven't already.
I'd appreciate it

I like the stock design of a 56 better, my taillight is over 65 years old and works like new. none of this push button electronic crap will be working when its that old. Just like the transfer case shifter in my 72 Blazer that still works, push button ones fail regularly.
I like the stock design of the 56 too @mr55/56 but I don't like the look of the 56 tail light.
I like the 55 tail light better.
There's a manual over-ride just in case the "push button electronic crap" fails.
All the best to you

I've been installing them for some time now and have never had one fail. Rocky Hinge does a very good job of building these units, they are very high quality, easy to install and adjust and THEY JUST PLAIN WORK. I love the way they clean up the quarter on a 55. They are a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. For those of you that don't like them, no worries, you don't have to buy one. The small trick items installed on a classic for me just makes it a bit more unique...JMO. :)

Thanks for the positive feedback @lostn50s !!
I agree with you - it just makes it a bit more unique - just the way I like it.
The Rocky Hinge unit is a nice piece - I'll keep you posted on how it works.
Thanks again for the support.
